Here’s a pattern I see constantly.
A client cancels last minute. The coach says “no worries” and reschedules. It happens again. And again.
The coach starts feeling resentful and dismissive of that client.
Sound familiar?
Here’s the point: Your clients don’t need a martyr. They need, and want, a professional.
Boundaries teach people how to treat you
A clear cancellation policy isn’t cold. It’s clarity.
It says: “My time has value. So does yours. Let’s both show up.”
Clients actually respect this. The ones who don’t? They were never going to be good clients anyway.
Separate your worth from their wins
You can care deeply about your clients and still maintain clear boundaries.
Your job is to show up prepared, give your best guidance, and create the conditions for change.
Their job is to do the work.
That’s the deal.
Start here
If you don’t have a cancellation policy, create one today. 24-hour notice minimum. Session forfeited or charged if they no-show.
Put it in writing. Enforce it the first time it’s tested.
Will it feel uncomfortable? Probably.
Will it save your business and your energy for the clients who actually show up?
Absolutely.
You’re not running a charity. You’re running a business. Act like it, and watch how differently people treat your time.
