Here’s something that took me years to learn:
Your client doesn’t need the perfect 12-week program on day one.
They need to feel like they made a good decision hiring you.
That happens fast. Or it doesn’t happen at all.
The first week matters more than week six
When someone signs up with you, they’re excited but also a little nervous. Did I pick the right coach? Is this worth the money? Am I actually going to stick with it this time?
A quick win answers all of that.
Maybe it’s hitting their first workout and feeling good instead of destroyed. Maybe it’s one small nutrition swap that actually feels doable. Maybe it’s just hearing from you on day three with a check-in that shows you’re paying attention.
These moments build trust faster than any fancy periodization scheme.
Stop perfecting. Get them moving.
I’ve seen coaches spend days building the “ideal” program before their client even starts. Meanwhile, the client is sitting there wondering if they made a mistake.
You can always adjust the program. You can’t always recover lost momentum.
Get them started. Get them a win. Then build from there.
What this looks like in practice
Pick one thing your new client can succeed at in the first 48 hours. Make it specific. Make it achievable. Then celebrate it with them.
That’s it. That’s the strategy.
The best program in the world means nothing if your client ghosts you in week two.
Momentum first. Perfection never.
